Tampa Startup Consulting For Tiny Home Startup

Tiny Home Match was in search of some Startup Consulting here in Tampa and we answered the call! As rents, mortgages and interest rates continue to rise, Kevin Bricker believed that the lack of affordable housing in America was not getting better.  In fact, it was getting much, much worse.

So he decided to take action.

The solution was simple in theory yet complex in application… create a unique space that brought all elements of the tiny home movement – a movement that Kevin and many Americans view as the solution – together in hope of creating a platform for collaboration, awareness, opportunity and results.

After an initial call with Startup Street, the idea of TinyHomeMatch.com was born.

The Analysis:

After the initial kickoff meeting, it was determined that the following would need be addressed in order to get the startup up and running:

Items to Tackle:

  • The Business Plan:  The initial business plan needed to be reviewed and refined, with a better focus on organizing the information along with paths to monetization and profitability.
  • The Offer:  Who exactly were the “main players” in the tiny home community, and what purposes do they serve?  In what capacity can they work or help each other?
  • Technology:  With the inevitable need for a filterable and sortable database, along with other aspects such as a listings component for rental listings, what plugins and/or extra software are we going to need?
  • Marketing:  Once the platform is life, how do we go about targeting different audiences and considering cash flow, which ones should we prioritize and why?
  • Legal: What contracts are going to be required for builders along with disclaimers/legal for those would would like to rent out their tiny homes, along with the initial legal legwork required to get the LLC set up.
  • The Brand:  How do we create the type of branding that will resonate with both sides, including the logo, website, taglines, etc.

The Solution:

The Offer:  First and foremost, we had to figure out what we were doing, why were doing it and how was it going to be organized into a manner that was easy to understand?  After some consultation, it was determined that the tiny home movement could be best divided into four categories- or as we like to call them, four “buckets” :

  • Those who want to build a tiny home
  • Those who want to rent a tiny home
  • Those who own a tiny home and would like to rent it out
  • Those who build tiny homes.

The best path to monetization was determined to be through the builders as that was a high dollar value translation, along with some eventual fees for listing tiny homes for rent on the website.

Startup Advice: Organizing Information
Organizing the startup’s mission is perhaps the most valuable aspect of any startup consulting. All too often startups come out the gate disorganized, trying to be everything to everyone, and end up in lots of trouble due to the scattered nature of their launch. Accurately defining, analyzing, prioritizing and organizing the mission of the startup is imperative for success.

Technology: Directory software and listing softwares were chosen, tested and installed.

Legal: The LLC was established along with federal tax ID and the bank account was set up. Initial contracts for the builders and the listings were developed.

Startup Advice: The Legal
When you are setting up your startup and realize that you are going to either need to tweak your contracts a lot or perhaps use them repeatedly, make sure the lawyers set them accordingly. All too often startups get help from legal sources without the ongoing usage of the contracts in mind, which ultimately leads to more charges that may have been avoidable.

Startup Consulting Branding for Tiny Home

The brand’s positioning as a matchmaker meant that the brand must be looked upon as friendly, cooperative and down to fight for the mission. Ironically, this is exactly the mindset of most tiny home fans – and also Kevin the founder – so it was an easy match.

The website was developed to be clean, educational and professional with a tech-forward feel. The information was organized in a manner which makes it easy for end users to navigate, which is especially important if a startup has two separate target markets (doctors AND lawyers). Social media accounts were set up and templeted posts were provided to help Chris hit the ground running.

The logo was designed to replicate a puzzle, with the two pieces of the house coming together, and the platform acting as the middle piece. This was representative of TinyHomeMatch.com’s mission to bridge the gap between the four main categories of the market.

The Results

The TinyHomeMatch.com project lasted approximately two months, and through this intensive startup consulting process Kevin was provided with a clear and concise gameplan for year one of his startup, the tools he needed and a great website and brand to launch with.
