Empowering Recovery Farms for a Successful Startup Launch
The team at Root Awakening Farm had a fantastic concept, preparing to build a recovery based farm that helps those in substance abuse recovery. Their passion was amazing, and their credentials were impressive. They simply needed a hand putting it all together.
Tampa-based Startup Street – a premiere website development, branding and startup consultancy – got to work, consulting on a wide range of items, costs and revenue generators, providing a well-organized, thorough business plan, website, logo and brand for Root Awakening Farm to hit the ground running on their startup launch.
Consulting
The consulting items for this project were numerous and tedious, require ample research and discussion in order to create a streamlined, in-depth finished product.
The Farm
What would need to be grown, what was the yield per acre, costs of soil preparation and initial planting, along with an analysis of the end products to be produced (the team settled on a variety of jams, salsas and honey, creating an easy to manage product lineup both from a growing perspective and also a preparation and packaging perspective.
The Farmhouse
What kind of general meeting area/farmhouse were we going to develop? Items that were completed were analysis of building costs, site preparation, features needed for the structure, along with other items needed to get a solid grasp of both the initial costs of construction along with ongoing debt payments.
The Services
What would be the key services for recovery? How much labor was this going to require, what kind of participation/space limits were there, labor costs, part-time vs full-time, and more.
Through an in-depth startup consultation process, Startup Street and Root Awakening Farm managed to get it all figured out, complete with a five year financial forecast (including revenue streams, labor costs, overhead expenses, cost of goods sold and benchmarks), along with a business plan that answered any question that potential donors may have.
Logo Development
Midway through the project, Startup Street began the process of logo development. RAF was looking for something clean and professional, that vibed with a ‘modern farmhouse” brand. The finished logo is a unique blend of a R with an A, while also incorporating the leaf to represent nature and the farmhouse outline. The logo had depth of meaning, while remaining simple enough that it could be used in a variety of mediums without losing impact.
Advice: Designing a Logo that Lasts
Many times when designing a logo, people tend to get too complicated. Logos must remain simple, not just so that the market will recognize it easier, but it must be able to fit the many areas of the digital landscape (think of how small a logo shows up on mobile). Startup Street has a motto with logo development, ‘Keep em Simple and Keep em Clean”.
Website Design
Once the initial startup consulting and logo design were completed, Startup Street got to work on the website. The main aspects of the company were already figured out, and the initial work on the logo provided ample into the overall brand design, deemed “modern farmhouse” for the duration of the project.
The website came out absolutely beautiful, incorporating a warm and welcoming feeling and perfectly blending “farm life” with the importance of substance abuse recovery through a unique approach.
